GOVERNOR YAHAYA BELLO DECLARES LOCKDOWN
Governor Yahaya Bello has declared a two weeks lockdown in Kabba-Kunnu Local Government Area (LGA), Kogi State.
Recall that the Kogi State Government dissociated itself from the announcement made by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) confirming two COVID-19 cases in the LGA last week.
Saka Audu, the State’s Commissioner for Health, on Saturday, rejected NCDC’s confirmed cases accusing the Commission of “having an agenda” and terming the commissions’s report as “fictitious.”
Governor Bello, who did not admit that NCDC's Coronavirus cases within his State are valid, claims he is locking down the Local Government Area as a "proactive" measure.
Bello urged security personnel in the State to ensure that the lockdown is effectively enforced and promised palliatives to cushion the effect of the lockdown in the affected area.
Bello said; “I do not enjoy lockdown as I know the economic, social, and even health implications of such a decision. But we have to take a proactive step and provide effective leadership in ensuring that our people are safe,” he added.
According to the Governor, NCDC did not carry the State health officials along in its investigation before announcing the cases.
