IGP CALLED ME TO LEAVE EDO STATE ON EVE OF GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION - WIKE

Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has said that the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, ordered him to leave Edo State on the night of the September 19 governorship election.

Wike, who was the Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) campaign Council, said he asked the IGP why Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State and Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were allowed to stay in the State, but the IGP could not respond.

While speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise daily program on Friday, September 25, Governor Wike said he turned down the order of the IGP because as the campaign Chairman he was meant to monitor the election process.

He said: “The IG never saw me outside. I was inside my room and I got a call from the him that I must leave Edo State. What surprised me was why should I leave Edo State? I am the chairman of the campaign council and the chairman does not mean that after the campaign, you leave. No, you must monitor what is going on so that at the end of the day, you would be able to write your report."

Recalling what happened to the former acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Joy Nunieh, Wike said the IGP criticized his intervention.

“When our sister, Joi Nunieh was to be abducted, IG was not happy about my intervention.

“He called me and I asked him how could you allow a woman to be taken away at 4:00am knowing the security situation in the country today? Why didn’t you invite her?”

Recall that Eons Intelligence reported that men of the Nigeria Police stormed Nunieh's residence in Port Harcourt hours to her appearance before the National Assembly.

Wike said he does not regret his action because the police were wrong to have attempted to arrest Nunieh the day she was to give evidence at the National Assembly.
