IGP Commends Nigerian Police Officers for Exemplary Service in Somalia
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has lauded officers of the Nigeria Formed Police Unit (NFPU) for their exceptional professionalism, dedication, and service under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).
The commendation follows the successful redeployment of NFPU officers—who served from October 16, 2023, to June 14, 2025—to administrative and NFPU-12 Command Element roles at the AUSSOM Police and Mission Headquarters in Mogadishu, Somalia.
Despite being trained primarily for Formed Police Unit duties, the officers showcased impressive adaptability by taking on Individual Police Officer (IPO) responsibilities with minimal induction. According to a letter from the AUSSOM Police Commissioner dated June 12, 2025, they quickly mastered complex administrative and operational tasks during a critical period of security transition, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of AUSSOM police operations.
Fifteen officers were redeployed, including CSP Shehu Gani Ahmed, SP Abraham Akhojie, SP Olivia Ugochukwu, SP Aliyu Makwa, DSP Jack Prince, DSP Odey Kingsley Lukpata, IP Nwite Sunday, and Sgt Ayeni Richard, among others. Their efforts significantly contributed to sustaining mission continuity and improving operational efficiency, earning them commendation from AUSSOM leadership and international peacekeeping stakeholders.
IGP Egbetokun described the officers as worthy ambassadors of the Nigeria Police Force, expressing pride in their conduct and achievements. He encouraged them to maintain the highest standards of discipline, professionalism, and excellence in service, while reaffirming the Force’s commitment to global peacekeeping efforts and international cooperation.
