Israeli Strike in Lebanon Claims Three Journalists' Lives; Lebanese Official Labels It 'Assassination'
Violence in southern Lebanon has escalated, claiming the lives of three journalists and ten soldiers, Lebanese officials confirmed. The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that three journalists were killed and three others injured after a strike hit their accommodation in Hasbaya.
Lebanese Minister of Information, Ziad Makary, denounced the attack as an "assassination" in a statement on his social media account Friday. He alleged that Israeli forces deliberately targeted the journalists, who had been covering ongoing hostilities.
βThe Israeli enemy waited for the journalists to rest at night to betray them in their sleep. For months, they reported from the field, revealing documented crimes,β Makary stated. He emphasized that β18 journalists from 7 media organizations were present at the scene, suggesting premeditated targeting and tracking.β
Makary described the incident as a "war crime" and expressed condolences to the families of the deceased, identified as Ghassan Najjar, Muhammad Reda, and Wissam Qassem, who worked with Al-Mayadeen and Al-Manar TV channels.
Meanwhile, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) acknowledged the deaths of ten soldiers involved in Lebanon, clarifying that while these casualties were not recent, they had now been confirmed following notifications to their families.
