Kenya Offers N11.5m Bounty for Escaped Suspected Serial Killer Linked to 40 Murders

Kenyan authorities have announced a reward of one million shillings (approximately N11.5 million or $7,700) for information leading to the capture of Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, a suspected serial killer linked to the deaths of over 40 women in Nairobi.

Khalusha, who was arrested in 2024, is accused of murdering women aged between 18 and 30, whose mutilated bodies were discovered in an abandoned quarry that had turned into a dumpsite in the city.

Police confirmed that he escaped custody in August 2024, alongside 12 other inmates, after cutting through a wire mesh roof and scaling the perimeter wall of a detention facility described as one of the country’s most secure. The station is located near the United States Embassy and United Nations offices in Nairobi.

The jailbreak triggered widespread outrage, with the police facing criticism for failing to rearrest him more than a year after his escape.

Human rights activist Khalid Hussein, who has been monitoring the case, accused the authorities of negligence, stating that the police had not shown seriousness in bringing justice for the victims. He further alleged that some of the victims’ remains were still left in quarry pits, decomposing without proper recovery.

The Kenyan police have urged citizens to provide credible information that could lead to Khalusha’s capture, stressing that his re-arrest is vital to restoring public confidence in the country’s security system.
