ABU SAYYAF: LEADER OF KIDNAP FOR RANSOM GROUP KILLED, HOSTAGES RESCUED
Reports indicate that Philippine troops have killed a leader of the Abu Sayyaf kidnap for ransom group and rescued four abducted victims who had been held captive for more than a year.
The Military says Majan Sahidjuan popularly called Apo Mike sustained severe injuries from a gun duel with Philippine troops before passing away on Saturday night in Languyan town, southern Tawi-Tawi province.
“We are happy that all the hostages are safe now and we are also able to neutralize the notorious ‘Apo Mike’ and two of his comrades,” Lieutenant General Corleto Vinluan Jr, Commander of the Military’s Western Mindanao Command, said.
The Commander revealed the troops were able to rescue the abductees after the Abu Sayyaf boat capsized in heavy seas between Sulu and Tawi-Tawi
He said their boat capsized after it was disrupted by waves providing the troops the opportunity to rescue three of the four hostages identified as Arizal Kasta Miran, 30; Arsad Bin Dahlan, 41; and Andi Riswanto, 26.
The fourth hostage identified as Mohd Khairuldin, 15, was found by Government troops in the same village when the gun duel occurred.
Recall that the four hostages were part of five Indonesians kidnapped by the Abu Sayyaf syndicate on January 17, 2020, off Tambisan in Malaysia. The fifth hostage was killed while trying to escape.
