Kogi State Government Orders Closure of All Schools Due to Rising Security Concerns

The Kogi State Government has ordered the immediate closure of all public and private primary and secondary schools in the state, effective Wednesday, 4 February 2026, due to escalating security threats.

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo issued the directive as a preventive measure to protect students, teachers, and school staff. The closure is in response to intelligence reports highlighting potential security risks within the state.

The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Kogi State chapter, circulated the notice to school owners, stressing the importance of compliance with the order. The notice, signed by NAPPS State Chairman Pastor Reuben Jimoh, cautioned school proprietors against defying the directive, warning that non-compliance could result in the revocation of their operating licenses.

The notice clarified that the break was being implemented due to security concerns and emphasized the need for strict adherence. While no specific date for resumption was provided, school administrators have been instructed not to announce any reopening dates until further guidance is issued by the state government.

Education officials explained that the closure is a precautionary action, not an overreaction, aimed at safeguarding the safety of students and staff. Parents and guardians are urged to remain calm, keep their children at home, and monitor official channels for updates.

This emergency measure is one of the most significant safety steps taken by the Ododo administration, underscoring the government’s commitment to securing the well-being of Kogi State’s residents.
