PRISON OFFICIALS SUSPENDED FOLLOWING ALLEGATIONS OF INFRACTIONS INVOLVING BOBRISKY AND OTHER INMATES
The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board has announced the suspension of several senior officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) following allegations of misconduct and corruption. This development comes in the wake of a viral video on social media, which spotlighted certain infractions by the officers, particularly in connection with popular Nigerian personality Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky.
Among the officers suspended are:
Michael Anugwa, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), who was in charge of the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC) in Kiri-kiri, Lagos State.
Sikiru Adekunle, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), overseeing the Maximum-Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), also in Kiri-kiri, Lagos State.
In a separate case, ASC II Ogbule Samuel Obinna, an officer at the MSCC in Afikpo, Ebonyi State, was also suspended. Obinna is alleged to have escorted a convicted inmate out of the facility, raising concerns about a breach of protocol.
Furthermore, Iloafonsi Kevin Ikechukwu, Deputy Controller of Corrections at the MSCC in Kuje, Abuja, has been suspended for allegedly accepting bribes on behalf of an inmate.
The Board emphasized that these suspensions are part of ongoing investigations, assuring the public that the findings will be disclosed once the probes are concluded. This move underscores the Board’s commitment to upholding the integrity of Nigeria’s correctional system.
