MAN BAGS LIFE IMPRISONMENT FOR RAPING MINOR IN JIGAWA
Justice Musa Ubale of a High Court sitting in Birnin Kudu has sentenced Idris Munkaila, 48, to life imprisonment for defiling his Six-year-old sister-in-law.
Munkaila, also known as Dan Asabe, resides at Gwaram Local Council Area of Jigawa State, was found guilty of rape, a crime punishable under Section 283 of the Penal Code Law of Jigawa State.
In the charge, Idris Munkaila was accused of luring the six-year-old on June 26, 2017, at Sara Town in Gwaram Local Council of Jigawa State, and had sexual intercourse with the minor. The defendant allegedly threatened the victim not to tell anyone.
Sadly, the victim’s mother observed that there was a whitish discharge from the child's private part. After much questioning, the victim told her mother that it was Munkaila who had sexual intercourse with her.
In proof of the case, the prosecution called five witnesses and tendered two exhibits while the defendant testified for himself.
Both counsels to the parties addressed the court.
Hon Justice Musa Ubale found that the prosecution had proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt, thereby convicted the defendant and sentenced him to life imprisonment as provided under the Jigawa State Penal Code Miscellaneous Amendment, 2014.
