MARKETS IN ABUJA TO OPEN THRICE A WEEK

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, Mohammed Bello, has ordered that markets in Abuja be opened three days in a week.



This decision was made in a meeting the minister had with the COVID-19 Emergency Response Team and the FCT Security Committee in Abuja.


With effect from Monday, the number of days markets are allowed to operate in the FCT has been increased from two to three days in a week from 8am to 3pm.


An official statement from the Minister's Chief Press Secretary, Anthony Ogunleye, added that;


“Agricultural inputs for farm activities such as sale of fertilizer, herbicides, seeds and agricultural implements. Building and construction materials. Electrical items specifically for construction.


“Neighborhood selling points managed by the Abuja Markets Management Ltd which are restricted to selling only foodstuff, are to operate daily;


“All new sections of the market to be re-opened as indicated above must ensure decontamination of their premises prior to commencement of business.


“Market operators and customers must also observe all already established protocols of handwashing, facial coverings and social distancing."


According to the NCDC, Abuja has recorded 883 cases of Coronavirus.


Of the 883 cases, 714 are active and are in admission. 133 discharges have been made, and 36 deaths have been recorded.
