NAF Precision Air Strikes Neutralise Terrorists, Disrupt Planned Attacks in Niger State

The Air Component of Operation Fansan Yamma Sector 1 has recorded significant operational successes following a series of intelligence-led air operations conducted between 20 and 23 May 2026 across parts of Niger State.

According to a statement, the coordinated missions targeted terrorist elements operating in Rafi and Mariga Local Government Areas, leading to the neutralisation of several fighters and the disruption of planned attacks on security forces and civilian communities.

On 20 May 2026, following credible intelligence on terrorist movement and convergence around Tungan Bako and Kasuwan Daji in Rafi LGA, the Air Component, in conjunction with the Nigerian Army Space Command Regiment, executed precision air interdiction strikes. The operation successfully neutralised several terrorists and disrupted their operational build-up in the area.

On 21 May 2026, terrorists reportedly moving on motorcycles and on foot while rustling cattle from Tungunguna towards Uregi were identified and engaged. The strike resulted in their neutralisation and the destruction of their movement and withdrawal capabilities. On the same day, close air support was also provided to troops engaged with terrorists at Tungan Makeri, restoring operational advantage to friendly forces.

In a continuation of sustained offensive operations, armed reconnaissance missions were conducted on 23 May 2026 over Dogon Dawa and surrounding areas in Mariga LGA, following intelligence reports of planned terrorist attacks on troop positions. Terrorist elements attempting tactical movement were swiftly tracked and engaged with precision strikes, resulting in the neutralisation of a significant number of fighters and the disruption of the planned attacks.

Post-strike assessments confirmed the effectiveness of the operations in degrading terrorist capabilities and denying them freedom of action within the affected areas.

Reaffirming the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to safeguarding the nation, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, commended the professionalism and precision of the personnel involved. He assured Nigerians that the Air Force will continue sustained intelligence-driven operations in collaboration with other security agencies to neutralise threats, protect lives, and restore lasting peace across affected regions.
