The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Non Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) are set to embark on an indefinite strike from February 5.

This was announced by Peter Adeyemi, NASU General Secretary, in a statement made available to newsmen on Friday January 22.

Adeyemi, who said the JAC is embarking on the industrial action due to unpaid allowances, noted that the committed had embarked on a three-day protest which yielded no outcome.

He revealed that 90%of NASU and 83% of SSANU members were in support of the strike while the remaining 10% and 11% of the both unions opposed the industrial action.

For about nine months, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU( and the Federal Government were at loggerheads over non-payment of Earned Allowance, welfare of lecturers, among others, forcing students to sit at home.
