NCDC OFFICIAL DIES OF COVID-19 IN ZAMFARA

JJ Shalanga, an official at the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), died from COVID-19 complications, yesterday, July 5th, 2020.


It was gathered that the NCDC supervisor was posted to Zamfara State to supervise and help monitor the spread and control of the virus. 


According to reports, Shalanga has been in Zamfara since the emergence of the virus in the State.


Yahaya Kanoma, the State’s Commissioner of Health, confirmed the incident.


The Commissioner said that the deceased fell ill and was taken to Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital, Gusau, where he died.


Kanoma revealed that he died of COVID-19 when his samples were tested.


He added that his remains have been taken to his home town in Plateau State for burial.


According to the NCDC, as of July 6th, 2020, Zamfara has recorded 76 cases of COVID-19, 71 discharges have been made, and 5 deaths have been recorded.


Similarly, in Benue, Godwin Achinge, the Vice-Chairman of the State action committee on COVID-19, also died of complications from the virus.
