NIGERIA NAVY BUSTS CRUDE OIL SIPHONING SYNDICATE IN ONDO
Seventeen individuals have been apprehended by Nigerian Navy operatives for their involvement in the illicit siphoning of crude oil at the EBESAN oil field, located off the coast of the Awoye riverine community in Ilaje LGA, Ondo State.
Acting on credible intelligence received on December 6, 2023, around 22:00hrs regarding the unauthorized extraction of crude oil, the anti-Crude Oil Theft Patrol Team from FOB IGBOKODA approached MT VINNALARIS 1 LAGOS at approximately 03:00hrs on December 7, 2023. The two boats attached to the vessel attempted to escape upon sighting the naval personnel.
Upon reaching the scene, a vessel with a storage capacity of about 15,000 metric tonnes was found, loaded with an illicit 500 metric tonnes of crude oil. The 17 crew members involved in the siphoning were promptly arrested.
