The new outfits were flagged off at separate occasions yesterday. The Army said that Operation Exercise Golden Dawn will collaborate with existing security outfits to deal with insecurity in the Eastern and South Southern States. It was flagged off in Enugu.

Speaking at the launch of Operation Still Waters at the Digital Bridge Institute, Cappa, Oshodi in Lagos, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, Major General Lawrence Fejokwu announced that the operation commences on October 4th, 2021 and ends on December 23rd, 2021.

He said that there is an urgent need for the Nigerian Army to liaise with other security agencies in the region to nip the rise of criminal activities in the bud.

"The exercise is an Ember month programme which we conduct over the years since the days of the python dance, crocodile smile which has now been reviewed as Operation Still Waters".

"The operation will serve as a rehearsal on how to tackle criminal elements which is what we do in our various classrooms and now we are bringing it down to the fields", he said.

Major General Fejokwu also stated that it is quite embarrassing how some criminal elements killed a senior Police officer in the line of duty and the recent kidnapp of serving and retired military personnels in Lagos and other South Western States in recent times.

He added that the Military will observe all rules of engagements during the exercise. He said that lawful citizens have nothing to fear. He said that the unit will go all out to ensure that it is no longer business as usual for criminal elements who parade themselves under different nomenclatures.

The Army also conducted free medical check ups for residents of Oshodi and environs as part of the commencement of the programme.
