
Police Rescue 80-Year-Old Woman, Neutralize 6 Suspected Kidnappers and Robbers, Arrest 12, Recover Cache of Arms
The Nigeria Police Force has recorded major successes in its ongoing efforts to combat violent crime and bolster national security, following a series of coordinated operations across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Jigawa State.
In the FCT, operatives of the Police Command, acting on credible intelligence, successfully dismantled a notorious armed robbery and carjacking syndicate operating across Abuja. The suspects were intercepted while attempting to launch another robbery around the Maitama area.
Upon sighting the operatives, the gang opened fire, prompting a gun duel. One of the most wanted members of the gang, identified as Abdulmininu Bello a.k.a. Babanle, was neutralized during the exchange, while seven other suspects were arrested. Among the suspects were two ex-convicts, Ibrahim Muhammad (22) and Isiaka Adamu, along with Abubakar Abdullahi (22), Sarajo Yusuf (20), Sanusi Ali (51), Abubakar Sani, and Abdullahi Isah.
Items recovered from the suspects include four AK-47 rifles, two locally made pistols with 10 rounds of live 9mm ammunition, 11 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, a locally made shotgun, a 2004 Toyota Camry LE, and a red Boxer motorcycle.
Meanwhile, in Jigawa State, operatives of the Command rescued an 80-year-old woman, Hajiya Hajara, who had been kidnapped from her residence in Sarbi Village, Minjibir LGA of Kano State. The abductors, a 12-man armed gang, were intercepted while attempting to escape through Jigawa State.
In a swift operation, police operatives supported by local security groups stormed criminal hideouts between Danzomo and Medi villages. A fierce gunfight ensued, resulting in the neutralization of five suspects, including the gang leader, Yahaya (35). Five other suspects were arrested.
The victim was rescued unhurt and taken to the hospital for medical evaluation before being discharged. Weapons recovered at the scene include two AK-47 rifles, a locally fabricated LAR rifle, 14 live rounds of ammunition, two motorcycles, and two mobile phones.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, commended the gallant efforts of the officers involved and expressed appreciation for the public’s cooperation. He urged continued vigilance and prompt reporting of suspicious activities to enhance community safety and national security
