LIVERPOOL STRIKER TAIWO AWONIYI ON TARGET FOR FSV MAINZ 05

The league has been allowed to restart without fans, most people off the pitch wearing masks and muted goal celebrations.

 

Awoniyi came off the bench in the 56th minute and required only five minutes to open his Bundesliga account and begin a comeback for his side.

 

The 22-year-old found space in the penalty box to tuck in a low cross from the right as Mainz battled to secure a 2-2 result that earned a valuable point near the foot of the table.



Taiwo Awoniyi (22 years 279 days), on loan from @LFC, became the youngest Nigerian to score in the Bundesliga since Anthony Ujah (21 years 21 days) netted against Stuttgart in November 2011, also for Mainz.


Saturday's games gave us an indication of what football will look like for the foreseeable future, as the Bundesliga became the first elite league to return.

 

The footballs were disinfected by ball boys and left in certain spots around the pitch, rather than handing them directly to the players.


Even goal celebrations were mostly done without embracing
