NSCDC Mining Marshals Unveil 2025 Operational Strategy, Set to Crack Down on Illegal Miners
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Mining Marshals have unveiled their 2025 Strategic Operational Plan aimed at enhancing field operations, improving regulatory compliance, and intensifying the fight against illegal mining activities. The strategy also focuses on strengthening collaborations with the Nigeria Mining Cadastre Office to ensure effective enforcement of the Corps' mandate.
Speaking on the achievements of the Mining Marshals, the Director-General of the Nigeria Mining Cadastre Office, Engr. Obadiah Nkom, lauded their professionalism, bravery, and resilience despite numerous challenges in combating illegal mining. He described the Marshals as a catalyst for national development, commending their dedication to safeguarding the nation's economy from saboteurs.
Engr. Nkom highlighted the Marshals' unwavering commitment to their duties, noting their resistance to life-threatening situations, financial inducements, and external pressures. He further praised their role in upholding the Corps' integrity and contributing to the success of the nation’s mining sector.
"We must acknowledge the commitment of the NSCDC Mining Marshals under the leadership of Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR. His transformative leadership has reinforced the Corps as a formidable force against threats to our nation's economic potential and environmental sustainability," Nkom stated.
As part of efforts to strengthen the sector, the Squad Commander, Assistant Commandant John O. Attah, received assurances of full support from the Nigeria Mining Cadastre Office. The office plans to automate services and upgrade systems to streamline license verification processes, enhance transparency, and fortify the sector’s regulatory framework.
In his remarks, AC John Attah reaffirmed the NSCDC’s commitment to intensifying the crackdown on illegal mining operators. He emphasized that the Mining Marshals would ensure legitimate mineral titleholders have uninterrupted access to their resources. He further noted that the renewed vigor and strengthened collaborations would play a crucial role in tackling environmental and community challenges posed by unauthorized mining activities nationwide.
The 2025 strategic plan signals a renewed effort by the NSCDC to curb illegal mining, protect the environment, and foster sustainable growth in Nigeria's mining industry.
