OBASEKI EMERGES EDO PDP CANDIDATE

Governor Godwin Obaseki has emerged the Peoples Democratic Party candidate for the September 19 governorship election in the Edo state.

Obaseki won the PDP governorship ticket unopposed on Thursday at the Party's primary held at the Samuel Ogbemudia International Stadium Benin City.

In a shocking turn of events, Kenneth Imasuagbon, an aspirant in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) withdrew from the primary poll for the Edo state governorship election, hours before the voting began.

The governor's Senior Special Adviser on New Media, Jack Obinyan, confirmed Obaseki's victory on Twitter where he wrote:

"In case you haven't heard, @GovernorObaseki is returned unopposed, emerges as the flag bearer of the @OfficialPDPNig ahead of September 19, 2020 Gubernatorial Elections."

The governor, an erstwhile member of the All Progressives Congress, defected to PDP after the APC screening committee disqualified him from participating in the primary election for the forthcoming governorship poll.

On September 19, Governor Obaseki would go to the polls against Osagie Ize-Iyamu who emerged the APC flag bearer for the Edo governorship election.
