Ogun Police Debunk Viral Attack Alert, Deploy Tactical Teams to Ajebo Community

The Ogun State Police Command has assured residents of Ajebo community in Obafemi-Owode LGA that there is no credible threat of an attack, despite a viral video claiming that herdsmen were preparing to launch violence in the area.

In response to the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, deployed a tactical team led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), working alongside Amotekun, So-Safe Corps, PCRC, local hunters, and the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) to conduct a comprehensive security assessment.

Security operatives discovered that the Fulani residents in Ajebo are long-established settlers who have been living peacefully within the community. According to the police, no weapons or suspicious activities were found. Only women and children were present during the visit, as the men had travelled to Oyo State for routine trading activities. An extended RUGA settlement said to be over ten years old was also identified.

Traditional leaders were invited for clarification, including Kabiyesi Oba Rueben Oluwole, who reportedly allocated land to the settlers, and the Baale of Alapako, where another cluster of huts was found.

The joint security team is maintaining surveillance in the forest area around the settlement—about 10km from the main community—strictly as a precautionary measure.

The Police Command urged residents to remain calm, maintain vigilance, and refrain from circulating unverified information capable of creating unnecessary fear.
