Ondo Election: ODIEC Assures of Seamless Process Despite PDP Withdrawal
The Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) has reassured the public that the withdrawal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the local government election scheduled for Saturday will not disrupt the electoral process.
The PDP, in a statement issued by its Director of Media and Publicity, Leye Igbabo, announced its withdrawal from the election, citing a lack of confidence in the electoral process conducted by the ODIEC. However, the chairman of ODIEC, Dr. Joseph Aremo, denied the allegation of being compromised, stating that the commission was transparent and fair to all parties involved in the election.
Aremo emphasized that the withdrawal of the PDP would not affect the conduct of the poll, as there were enough other parties participating. He explained that the commission had created a template for all parties to showcase their candidates and that the PDP had been part of the process until their withdrawal.
The ODIEC chairman also reiterated that the election would go on without any security breaches, as the commission had put measures in place to ensure the security of lives and property before, during, and after the poll. With strategies in place, Aremo assured that the election would be seamless and peaceful.
