Recall that the Government had approved the partial reopening of schools for students in SS 3 to prepare for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), scheduled to commence on August 17th, 2020.

Asaniyan said the schools showed no sign of preparation for the resumption of academic activities, adding that they will remain closed until improvement is made.

He revealed that the students in the affected schools were seen roaming the streets, clearing bushes, and staying in an unclean environment.

“There is no single preparation and the schools will remain sealed until basic things are put in place.

“This issue of COVID -19 is an unusual and strange trend and a very dangerous issue which needs prompt attention because it involves lives,’’ the Permanent Secretary said.

He added that the affected schools lacked running water, hand washing points, and a device for checking the temperature of students, staff and visitors before entering the school premises.
