Operation Fansan Yamma troops rescue 10 kidnap victims across North-West
Troops of Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 10 civilians during separate operations across Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states.
In Sokoto State, troops on patrol in Isa Local Government Area on 19 August 2026 encountered a terrorist ambush. The troops repelled the attackers, forcing them to flee, and rescued five civilians during the operation. Two motorcycles abandoned by the terrorists were also recovered.
A day earlier, troops acting on intelligence about the abduction of three people conducted a search operation in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State. The operation resulted in the rescue of all three victims, who were subsequently profiled and handed over to the appropriate authorities.
Also on 18 August, troops responded to reports of terrorist activity in Tsafe LGA, Zamfara State. Their swift intervention forced the terrorists to retreat, leaving behind two captives.
The two victims, who sustained gunshot wounds during their captivity, were evacuated to a medical facility for treatment, while efforts continue to locate the fleeing attackers.
The Theatre Command commended the troops for their vigilance and rapid response, assuring residents that operations against terrorist groups will be sustained across the Joint Operations Area.
Residents were also urged to provide timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing operations and help protect lives and property.
