ORJI KALU: THE SUPREME COURT RULING IS A TECHNICAL AMBUSH, WE ARE READY FOR A RETRIAL-EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC has referred to Senator Orji Uzo Kalu’s victory in the supreme court as a technical ambush, declaring that the Commission is ready for a retrial.

The Apex court today declared a Federal Court ruling that sentenced Kano to 12 years imprisonment null and void and ordered for a retrial of the case.

Justice Mohammed Idris, who convicted Kalu and others had been elevated to the Court of Appeal before the judgment and returned to the lower court to deliver the judgment which the supreme court considered as illegal.

The EFCC pointing out the basis on which the Supreme Court gave its verdict, referred to the Apex Court’s judgement as “as quite unfortunate. It is a technical ambush against the trial of the former governor,” the antigraft agency said in a statement.
