OSUN SUSPENDS MONARCH OVER ALLEGED RAPE OF MINOR
A 62-year-old monarch in Osun State, the Aketewi of Iketewi, David Ogungbemi, on Monday, May 17, was suspended over the alleged gang rape of a 14-year-old girl.
This was contained in a statement signed by the President of the Ijesa North Traditional Council in Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State after the monarch was found guilty of the offence.
The magistrate court in Osun State ordered that the Ogungbemi, his son, Idowu Ogungbemi and Sarafa Olayiwola be kept in prison for allegedly defiling the 14-year-old girl on Thursday, May 14.
On Monday, May 18, Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara granted the suspects bail in the sum of N1million each and one surety each in the same sum.
The case was adjourned till July 8, 2020, for mention at Ijebu-Ijesa Magistrate Court.
The Council also clarified that Oba Adejoro Otebolaku, the Owalare of Ilare was not involved in the dastardly act as wrongly mentioned in some media reports.
The statement said,
“The Council will like to inform the public that it was an error and misinformation for some media to have mentioned Oba Adejoro Otebolaku, The Owalare of Ilare as the culprit in the case. Oba Owalare of Ilare was never involved.”
The attention of the Council was called to information circulating on the Internet that Oba Adejoro Otebolaku was involved in the act, but the Council has said the offender is the Aketewi of Iketewi.
“The picture in the social media that showed Alahun of Ilahun as the offender mentioned above is not correct. The offender has been no other person than the Aketewi of Iketewi and not the Alahun of Ilahun nor Owalare of Ilare.”
Oba Ogungbemi, his son and others have since been arrested by the Police.
