POLICE ARREST 87 SUSPECTS FOR LOOTING IN OSUN

Osun State Police command has arrested about 87 suspects over the looting of Public and private properties in the State.


The Deputy Commissioner of police in charge of the 

Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in the State, Adebola Hamzat, disclosed this on Tuesday, October 27, while parading the suspects.

Hamzat said the arrest was part of efforts to recover the looted items, adding that the suspects would be charged to court as soon as possible.


Eons Intelligence, on Monday reported that the Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, gave a 72-hour ultimatum to the hoodlums who looted Government and Private assets to return the looted items.


The Governor threatened to make them face the wrath of the law if they failed to return the stolen items.


According to the Deputy Commissioner of police, the stolen items were being dropped on the streets across the State by the looters.

He urged the others to return the materials in their possession as the 72-hour ultimatum given by Governor Oyetola lapses on Wednesday, October 28.


“After the expiration of the ultimatum, anyone found with the looted items would be arrested and charged with armed robbery, conspiracy, brigandage, murder, housebreaking, stealing, receiving stolen property, and other sundry offenses”, he said.


Several stores and warehouses were looted in Osun last weekend by hoodlums in search of COVID-19 relief items.


Thugs on Friday, October 23, attacked a warehouse where COVID-19 palliatives are stored at Ede, Osun State and carted away some food items.


It is pertinent to state that Osun State is currently in a 24-hour curfew, which took effect from October 24.
