BREAKING: PRISON IN DELTA SET ABLAZE BY PRISONERS OVER AMNESTY

The Sapele Correctional Service Centre has been reportedly set on fire by inmates as they fight for amnesty on Monday.

The facility was set on fire because only three inmates were freed despite the state government granting amnesty to 25 inmates, following the order by the federal government to decongest cells in facilities.

According to a report, lack of food and water in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State aggravated the protest. It was also gathered that none of the inmates were able to escape.

Some of the inmates questioned the state government on why just 3 out of the 25 inmates granted amnesty were released.

However, The Senior Special Adviser on Security Matters to the Governor and Chairman of the LG, Hon Eugene Inoaghan, are at the facility to calm the unrest.

Similarly, on March 31, inmates at the Kaduna Central Correctional Centre also protested against the congestion of their cells following the outbreak of COVID-19 expressing fear of contracting the Coronavirus in the facility.
