
Police Arrest Armed Robbery Suspect in Calabar, Recover Firearm and Hard Drugs
Operatives of the Cross River State Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber in Calabar, recovering a firearm, ammunition, hard drugs, and other incriminating items during the operation.
The arrest followed a distress call received at about 10:47 a.m. on Friday, August 15, 2025, from a community leader at Edim Otop Street, Calabar, reporting an armed robbery incident. Operatives of the Command’s Anti-Cultism Squad swiftly mobilized to the scene and apprehended the suspect, identified as 25-year-old Daniel Etim Udoh.
Police reports indicate that Udoh allegedly robbed and stabbed his victim, Mr. Sunday Ofem of No. 6 Boropit, Satellite Town. A search on the suspect led to the recovery of a locally made pistol, one live cartridge, a pair of scissors believed to have been used in the attack, assorted hard drugs, and other illicit items.
While in custody, the suspect attempted to escape during interrogation but was shot in the leg, enabling his re-arrest. Both the suspect and the victim were taken to the police clinic, where they are currently receiving treatment.
The Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, CP Rashid B. Afegbua, commended the officers for their swift response and professionalism. He reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring public safety and called on residents to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information to aid crime prevention and control.
