Police Arrest Fake “Obi of Lagos,” Foil Planned Installation Ceremony
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 65-year-old man, Engr. Chibuike Azubike, who allegedly paraded himself as the “Obi of Lagos,” along with three accomplices, while attempting to hold an unlawful unveiling ceremony.
Azubike, an indigene of Obodoukwu Ancient Kingdom in Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State, was apprehended alongside Chief Chibuzor Ani (57), Chief Martins Nwaodika (65), and Mr. Ikechukwu Franklin Nnadi (41). All four suspects are currently in police custody at the Command Headquarters, Ikeja.
According to police intelligence, the group had scheduled the unveiling of a prototype of a purported N1.5 billion “Palace of Obi of Lagos State” for Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Apple Hall, Amuwo Odofin. Security operatives swiftly sealed off the venue to prevent any public disturbance and to stop unsuspecting citizens from being deceived.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, confirmed that tactical teams, including the Eko Strike Force and other operatives, were deployed to the site to maintain law and order. He noted that investigations into the activities of the suspects are ongoing, with plans to charge them to court upon conclusion.
CP Jimoh also urged Lagos residents to remain cautious of impostors attempting to exploit cultural and traditional institutions, stressing that such acts are unlawful and capable of disrupting public peace.
