POLICE BAN USE OF SIRENS, REVOLVING LIGHTS, SPY PLATES, SET UP TASK FORCE TO ENSURE COMPLIANCE IN RIVERS

Rivers State Police Command has banned the use of sirens, revolving lights, spy and covered plate numbers by unapproved and unauthorized persons in the State. 


Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Friday Eboka disclosed this in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Thursday. 


He said such facilities were being used to commit crimes in the State. He said criminals and other unauthorized persons were taking advantage of the the privilege to engage in barious forms of illegalities. 


The statement was signed by the Command’s spokesman, Nnamdi Omoni. The Command also urged those using the facilities to dismantle them within Seven days or be ready to face the law.


The statement read in part; “It has been observed that criminals and other unauthorised persons are using sirens, revolving lights, spy and covered plate numbers to commit crimes and other atrocities in the state.


“In view of these disturbing developments and sequel to the earlier directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Alkali Baba Usman, on the abuse and indiscriminate use of sirens, revolving lights, spy and covered plate numbers without appropriate approvals, the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Police Command, has with immediate effect banned the use of these facilities in the State."


“Against the background of the above, the CP wishes to inform the general public that a taskforce has been set up to ensure full compliance to the directive."
