Police Foil Kidnapping, Human Trafficking; Rescue Two Victims, Arrest Three Suspects, Recover Firearms

The Nigeria Police Force has recorded major breakthroughs in separate cases of human trafficking and kidnapping, with operatives rescuing two victims, arresting three suspects, and recovering an AK-47 rifle.

On July 30, 2025, at about 2:00 p.m., operatives of the Enugu State Police Command intercepted a suspected human trafficker, 30-year-old Raymond Sunday Wonna, along the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway. Two young female victims, identified as 18-year-old Miracle Ogar and 16-year-old Angela Kingsley, were rescued.

Investigations revealed that the victims were lured from Ogoja, Cross River State, under the guise of job offers in Ghana. The suspect, who posed as a casual labourer, allegedly planned to take them to work in a restaurant owned by his partner. While lodging them in a hotel pending departure, he reportedly attempted to sexually assault them. Police intervention stopped the planned trip, and the victims have been reunited with their families. Efforts are underway to apprehend other members of the trafficking syndicate.

In a separate operation on August 13, 2025, at about 10:00 a.m., Taraba State Police Command operatives, working with local security groups, stormed Mahadi Forest in Gassol LGA and arrested two suspected kidnappers — 20-year-old Yahaya Umar and 47-year-old Mohammed Umar. An AK-47 rifle was recovered. The suspects confessed to being part of a syndicate behind multiple kidnappings in Plateau and Taraba States.

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, praised the operatives for their swift action and reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks. He directed that investigations be expedited to ensure the suspects face prosecution.
