Police Rescue 11 Kidnap Victims, Arrest 2 Suspects, Recover Arms in Delta and Katsina States

In a sustained crackdown on violent crime, the Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with sister security agencies, has recorded significant breakthroughs in Delta and Katsina States. The latest operations led to the rescue of 11 kidnapped victims, the arrest of two suspected kidnappers, and the recovery of a large cache of illegal firearms and ammunition.

In Katsina State, a major success was recorded on June 8, 2025, when a Joint Task Force (JTF) comprising police operatives and other security personnel foiled a kidnapping attempt along the Danmusa–Mara Dangeza village road in Danmusa Local Government Area. The operatives, while on patrol, engaged in a fierce gun battle with armed bandits who were attempting to flee with abducted victims. The security team overpowered the kidnappers, forcing them to flee with gunshot wounds, and successfully rescued 11 victims unhurt.

In Delta State, police operatives attached to the CP-Special Assignment Team, acting on credible intelligence, arrested Abubakar Hassan (30) — a key suspect in a trans-state kidnapping syndicate operating across Delta, Rivers, Imo, and Enugu States. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to leading multiple operations along the Ughelli–Ozoro axis, and led police to a forest hideout in Ozoro where two AK-47 rifles, four magazines, and 32 rounds of live ammunition were recovered. His arrest is connected to an earlier operation that led to the apprehension of three other members of his gang.

Similarly, officers attached to the Safer Highway Patrol intercepted a vehicle during routine stop-and-search duties along Ughelli Road. A thorough search led to the recovery of a locally fabricated revolver pump-action single-barrel rifle and 15 rounds of live cartridges. The driver, Obi Ezekiel (38), was promptly arrested.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, praised the bravery and professionalism displayed by the officers during these operations. He urged all Commands to maintain momentum in the fight against violent crimes, emphasizing that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to ensuring there is no safe haven for criminals across the nation.
