POLICEMAN KILLS 32-YEAR OLD MAN IN IBADAN

A 32-year old man identified as Yemi Ajayi has been shot dead by a policeman in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.


The incident happened yesterday, July 10th, 2020, in Iwo Road at about 12.15pm.


This was confirmed by Olugbenga Fadeyi, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the State.


Fadeyi revealed that one of the policemen who was part of a team from the Agodi command tried stopping a Toyota Camry car conveying Ajayi, a businessman, and in the process fired a shot which hit him in the stomach, and he died afterwards.


An eyewitness of the incident who pleased anonymity said the policemen on patrol at that axis were drunk when the incident happened.


According to him, the officers drove to the scene of the incident in a Nissan micra car and stopped the vehicle being driven by the cousin of the deceased identified as Kayode Atanda.


The two occupants were reportedly on their way to work when they were trailed by the policemen.


The witness revealed that as the driver was trying to get out of the car, the policeman shot him. 


“I was here when the incident happened. He was about to open the car door when the drunken police officer shot him,” the witness said.
