Kwara Monarch Pleads for Negotiation as Bandits Demand N150m Ransom
Armed bandits who abducted the Ojibara of Bayagan in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, Alhaji Kamilu Salami, have reportedly demanded a ransom of N150 million for his release. The traditional ruler was kidnapped on his farm on Saturday morning.
According to Vanguard, the kidnappers contacted members of the Bayagan community early on Sunday and allowed the monarch to speak briefly to confirm he was alive and in their custody. During the call, he appealed to his people to engage with the abductors to facilitate his swift release.
Sources revealed that the monarch told the community he was transported for more than five hours on a motorcycle through a thick forest before arriving at the gang’s hideout, where the ransom demand was issued. Negotiations had not commenced at the time of the report, as the call was primarily made to inform the community of the amount being requested.
The monarch also disclosed that several other individuals from a neighbouring community were abducted by the same gang while he was being taken away.
Oba Salami was kidnapped at about 9:30 a.m. by armed assailants who invaded his farm, reportedly wielding AK-47 rifles. Bayagan is one of the major communities in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
