President Tinubu Postpones G-20 Trip Amid Security Crises in Kebbi and Kwara
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed his planned visits to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola, to focus on the ongoing security situations involving the kidnapped schoolgirls in Kebbi State and the attack on worshippers at Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State.
According to a statement from the presidency, President Tinubu, responding to a request from the Kwara State governor, has ordered the deployment of additional security personnel to Eruku and the wider Ekiti Local Government Area. He also directed the police to pursue the bandits responsible for the church attack.
The President, who was scheduled to attend the 20th G20 Summit in South Africa and the 7th AU-EU Summit in Angola, decided to suspend his departure following the incidents. He is awaiting updates from Vice President Kashim Shettima, who visited Kebbi on his behalf, as well as reports from the police and the Department of State Services on the church attack.
President Tinubu reaffirmed his directive to security agencies to ensure the safe rescue of the 24 schoolgirls abducted in Kebbi State.
