President Tinubu Speaks After U.S Strikes, Reaffirms Nigeria -U.S. Counter-Terrorism Partnership

The Federal Government of Nigeria has confirmed intensified security cooperation with the United States, leading to precision airstrikes against terrorist targets in parts of the country, particularly in the North-West.

This was disclosed in a press release issued on Friday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja, which stated that Nigerian authorities remain actively engaged in structured security collaboration with international partners, including the United States, to combat terrorism and violent extremism.

According to the ministry, the cooperation has facilitated intelligence sharing, strategic coordination and other forms of lawful support, resulting in targeted operations against terrorist elements threatening national and regional security.

The ministry emphasized that the collaboration aligns with international law and bilateral agreements, while respecting Nigeria’s sovereignty and shared global commitments to peace and security.

It reaffirmed that Nigeria’s counter-terrorism efforts are guided by the protection of civilian lives, preservation of national unity, and respect for the rights and dignity of all citizens, regardless of faith or ethnicity. The government stressed that terrorist violence against any religious or ethnic group remains unacceptable and contrary to Nigeria’s core values.

The statement further noted that the Federal Government is working closely with its partners to dismantle terrorist networks, disrupt their financing and logistics, prevent cross-border threats, and strengthen Nigeria’s security institutions and intelligence capabilities.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs assured the public that engagement with relevant international partners will continue and that updates will be communicated through official channels as necessary.

The statement was signed by the ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, on Friday, December 26, 2025.
