REPORT ANY OFFICIAL THAT REQUESTS FOR MONEY IN THE AIRPORT- FAAN TELLS TRAVELERS

As airports in the country gradually resume flight operations, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has charged air travellers to report any official that requests money under any guise.

FAAN  General Manager in charge of Corporate Affairs, Mrs Henrietta Yakubu made this announcement in a statement released on Sunday, August 16.

Domestic flight operations in the country resumed from July 8, following a suspension of all flight operations in the country in March as part of measures to curb the spread of the COVID 19 pandemic.

Yakubu, however, noted that the Airport Authority has received reports that some officials are extorting money from passengers under false pretences, adding that the allegations are being investigated.

“Arriving passengers are expected to have gone through the COVID-19 test before boarding their flights from ports of departure. Therefore, they should not pay any money whatsoever to any airport official for the purpose.

“All COVID-19 measures put in place at the airports are free for passengers and does not attract any charges,” the statement said.

Nigerian airport officials have been frequently accused of extorting and travellers.

In 2018, following rising complaints of sharp practices by airport officials, FAAN urged passengers to report any of its security officers demanding bribe to the appropriate authorities.

However, it is uncertain if any official was punished to serve as a deterrent to others.
