Retired Federal Works Controller Murdered in Ilorin Residenc
A retired Controller of Works at the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, AbdulRazaq Ajani, was brutally killed in his residence in Tanke, Ilorin, Kwara State, on January 1, 2025.
The tragic incident occurred around 3 p.m., shortly after Ajani and his family returned from Offa, their hometown, where they had celebrated the New Year.
According to eyewitness accounts, four young individuals trailed Ajani to his home. CCTV footage revealed two suspects standing by the gate, while two others entered the compound. The retired officer, upon noticing the strangers from the sitting room, approached the main door to meet them. Moments later, he was attacked and left face down, fatally injured in the presence of his family.
The spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the incident on Thursday, stating, "Yes, the incident happened. The police have commenced an investigation, but no suspects have been arrested yet."
Eyewitnesses described the scene as horrifying, with blood stains on the walls and the floor of the one-story duplex. Ajani, who retired from the ministry four years ago, had recently returned on a contract appointment in 2024.
Police teams have visited the scene, and sympathizers have gathered to console the bereaved family. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the culprits and bring them to justice.
