Scores killed as Terrorists Attack Military C amp in Borno
Boko Haram and its faction, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), have launched a deadly attack on a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in the Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State, Nigeria. The assault, which occurred on January 4, 2025, resulted in the deaths of several Nigerian soldiers, with numerous others still unaccounted for.
Security sources confirmed that the terrorists struck the base at approximately 4 a.m. on Saturday, using a range of weapons in the two-hour attack. They also set fire to several military buildings and operational vehicles. So far, at least seven bodies have been recovered, but the full toll remains unclear.
The attack targeted the 25 Taskforce Brigade stationed at FOB Sabon Gari. Since the death of Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau, ISWAP has strengthened its presence in the region, particularly around Lake Chad, with the group expanding through defections from Boko Haram fighters.
The Nigerian Army has vowed to continue its efforts to eradicate terrorism in the region, which has led to widespread displacement and loss of life, particularly in the states of Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe.
