
Scores of Boko Haram Insurgents Neutralized in Failed IED Ambush on Troops in Borno
Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have neutralized scores of Boko Haram terrorists in Kareto, Borno State, following a failed Improvised Explosive Device (IED) ambush on soldiers of the 145 Battalion, Damasak, under Sector 3.
According to military sources, the insurgents detonated the IED and opened fire on the troops in an attempt to overwhelm them. The soldiers, however, swiftly executed anti-ambush maneuvers, outflanking the attackers and killing several of them on the spot.
A sweep of the ambush site led to the recovery of one PKT automatic anti-aircraft machine gun, one AK-47 rifle, four AK-47 rifle magazines, a large quantity of 7.62mm ammunition, and two x 36 hand grenades. Other recovered items include a Motorola battery, a power bank, a motorcycle hand pump, a rifle butt, one motorcycle, 12 blankets, a bunch of wires, and other sundry items.
In a separate operation, troops of the 233 Battalion, in collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) under Sector 2, engaged terrorists at Sassawa village in Yobe State. The encounter resulted in the killing of two insurgents and the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, and 23 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
The military reiterated that the resilient troops of Operation HADIN KAI remain committed to sustaining aggressive offensives to deny terrorists freedom of action and achieve the mission’s overall mandate.
