BREAKING: FIRE GUTS MARKET, DESTROYS PROPERTIES WORTH BILLIONS
There was a fire outbreak at the Olaleye market, the Shomolu area of Lagos State at midnight on Saturday, May, 30.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the spokesman of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Nosa Okunbor on Saturday, May 30, 2020.
Okunbor said the fire started around 3:30 am and led to the destruction of goods worth billions.
The fire, which was reported to have lasted for two hours, was put out by the LASEMA alongside the Federal Fire Service.
As at the time of compiling this report, the cause of the fire has not been ascertained.
Okunbor stated further that, his agency received a distress alert from control rooms as regards a fire outbreak at the market and immediately deployed his team to the scene.
According to Okunbor, the fire was averted around 6:43 am; however, the cause of the fire is still being investigated.
He added that the fire response team battled the inferno to prevent it from destroying other residential buildings.
He noted that no life was lost and no injuries sustained by anyone.
