Singer Portable Claims He’s Receiving Treatment at Psychiatric Hospital Amid Police Manhunt
Controversial street singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has claimed he is currently undergoing treatment at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta.
His revelation follows the Ogun State Police Command’s declaration of him as wanted after he allegedly led an attack on officials of the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.
Background of the Incident
Officials of the Ogun State Government were reportedly attacked at Odogwu Bar during an enforcement exercise at Oke-Osa, Tigbo Ilu Ota. In response, Portable has shared multiple videos on social media, apologizing to the state government while maintaining his innocence.
However, the Ogun State Police Command, in a statement on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, insisted that Portable remains wanted under a court order.
“The Ogun State Police Command has obtained a valid court order declaring him wanted. Members of the public are strongly advised to assist the police by providing any valuable information that can lead to his immediate arrest. Anyone found aiding or harboring the suspect will face legal consequences.”
Portable's Appeal and Medical Claim
In a series of videos posted on Instagram on Tuesday, Portable pleaded with Nigerians and Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, insisting he is not a criminal and has a medical history at the psychiatric hospital.
“I fear government. I am a federal government liability. I’m a madman; I have medications that I usually take. You can confirm from Aro Hospital. I have a card that certifies me as one of their patients.”
He further stated:
“I am from Abeokuta, and they are taking care of me there. I am not a thief. I have never done Yahoo (internet fraud). I help people around me without even looking at their background.”
Portable also attributed his current troubles to spiritual attacks, alleging that some individuals are targeting him because he purchased lands and houses from them.
