Sokoto police foil bandit attack, recover two AK-47 rifles and ammunition
The Sokoto State Police Command says its operatives have foiled an attempted attack on Dankadu Village in Illela Local Government Area, with two suspected bandits reportedly killed during a gun battle.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, the suspected bandits were advancing from Tsauana Forest towards the community when operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Volunteer Constabulary, Rescue Unit and other tactical teams moved to intercept them.
A gunfight reportedly followed, forcing the attackers to retreat into the forest with gunshot injuries.
A subsequent clearance operation led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, two magazines and 54 rounds of live ammunition.
In a separate operation, police also arrested several suspects allegedly linked to motorcycle theft syndicates operating across parts of Sokoto metropolis.
The arrests were made during operations in Kwannawa, Tamaje, Mabera and Mana, with several suspected stolen motorcycles and a fabricated pistol recovered.
The Command said investigations into the cases are ongoing, while efforts continue to locate and arrest other members of the alleged motorcycle theft syndicates who remain at large.
The Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, Hassan Hayatu Shaffa, commended the operatives for their courage, professionalism and prompt response to security threats.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling banditry and other criminal activities and urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information that could assist security agencies in preventing crime.
