Three Bandits, One Vigilante Killed in Violent Clash in Plateau State Community
Dogon Ruwa community in Bashar District, Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State, witnessed a deadly clash between a local vigilante group and suspected bandits, leaving four dead.
The conflict reportedly began when bandits entered the village with intentions to abduct residents, according to Abdullahi Shu’aibu, a youth leader and member of the local vigilante group. Shu’aibu explained that the group received intelligence about the planned attack and strategically positioned themselves near the motorcycles the bandits had parked outside the village.
“The bandits entered homes and selected individuals for abduction, unaware that vigilantes were waiting near their motorcycles. As they attempted to escape, we engaged them, killing three. Sadly, one of our own was also killed in the exchange,” Shu’aibu stated.
The ongoing insecurity in the region has forced many residents from surrounding communities to flee to Wase town for safety. “Some have taken refuge in Wase, while others have relocated due to the constant threat of attacks and cattle rustling,” Shu’aibu added.
Efforts to obtain a statement from the Plateau State Police Command were unsuccessful, as DSP Alabo Alfred had not responded at the time of filing this report.
Wase villages have been plagued by banditry for over two years, enduring frequent kidnappings, killings, and the theft of hundreds of cattle, leaving many residents in a state of fear and uncertainty.
