COURT SENTENCES RIVERS SERIAL KILLER TO DEATH BY HANGING
A High court sitting in Rivers State has sentenced a serial Killer, Gracious David-West to death by hanging for the murder of several women in different parts of the State.
David-West, who was charged with nine counts of murder and one count of attempted murder, was reported to have carried out the acts in different hotels in Port Harcourt, where he strangled his victims to death.
The 40-year-old culprit, thereafter, used a white cloth to tie the hands and legs of his victims before making away with their valuables.
The trial Judge, Justice Adolphus Enebeli, in his judgment, pronounced David-West guilty and said "he should be hanged on his neck until he is dead.”

Justice Adolphus Enebeli who presided over the ruling said David-West is guilty of the murder of Maureen Ewuru, Jennifer Nwokocha, Blessing Effiong, Linda Warifa, Samuel Dorcas, Francis Kelechi, Bridget Onuoha, Rose Samuel, Anthonia Ibe and the attempted murder of Benita Etim.
The judge also resolved that his judgment was made based on the evidence and witnesses presented before the court, saying it proved beyond doubts that the accused was guilty of the charges.
Justice Enebeli explained that the confession of David-West, as well as the CCTV footage which was presented before the court, proved that he is guilty of the crime which he committed between July 30 and September 2019.
A Special Anti-Robbery Squad official, Ogbemudia Emegbokuro, one of the detectives who investigated the case, said the culprit took him to all the hotel rooms where he killed the women.

The Court also dismissed the case against Nimi Thankgod, who was accused of dumping the corpse of one of the victims of the killer in a dustbin.
It said the prosecution counsel did not have enough evidence to prove that Thankgod was guilty of the crime.
The trial of Gracious David-West for the Port Harcourt hotel serial killings started in October 2019 following his arrest on 19th of September 2019.

The killings had caused panic in Port Harcourt, which made women in the area protest.
