Tinubu Approves Nigerian Delegation for US–Nigeria Joint Working Group on Security
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the Nigerian membership of the US–Nigeria Joint Working Group, a key step aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in addressing the country’s security challenges.
The establishment of the Joint Working Group follows agreements reached during a recent high-level visit to Washington, D.C., led by the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu.
Ribadu will head the Nigerian delegation, supported by senior officials drawn from various ministries and security institutions. The team includes the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Maitama Tuggar; Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar; Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Dr. Bernard M. Doro; Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede; Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Amb. Mohammed Mohammed; and the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
Ms. Idayat Hassan from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and Mr. Paul Alabi of the Embassy of Nigeria in the United States will serve as the secretariat.
President Tinubu urged the members to work closely with their U.S. counterparts to ensure the effective implementation of all bilateral agreements across relevant sectors.
