INCREASED RATE OF RITUAL KILLINGS, HUMAN TRAFFICKING, ORGAN HARVESTING: A CAUSE FOR CONCERN
News on the rising spate of killings allegedly for rituals or organ harvesting again hit the media headlines as the corpse of an Anambra businessman identified as Zuby More with vital organs missing was on Monday found in his hotel room.
Recall that in a related development, reports went viral last week when a 300-level student of the Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation Science, University of Jos (UNIJOS), identified as Jennifer Anthony, was killed and her body mutilated, with several vital organs missing.

The motive for these murders though sketchy, have left many speculating the possibility of either ritual purposes or organ harvesting.
To successfully curtail and manage this mayhem, there is a need to postulate the possible motive behind the spike in these killings in recent days.

Is there a possibility of the existence of human and organ trafficking cartels in the Country?
On Friday, April 29, 2021, an industrious young orphan, Iniubong “Hinny” Umorem, zealous to make ends meet after her graduation, had set off for an interview invite. She met her waterloo at the hands of her supposed interviewer who is said to have reportedly raped, murdered and buried her in a shallow grave.
However, one salient suspicion that came to the fore in the course of investigations of Iniubong’s death was reports of an organ trafficking cartel that feed international donor organ black markets as well as ritual killings allegedly embarked on behalf of politicians.
Little wonder that hardly had the dust raised by the deaths of the University of Jos students settled than a 32-year old suspected yahoo boy identified as Afeez Olalere reveal that he used his younger brother for money ritual on the dictates of his mother.
According to the suspected yahoo fraudster who was apprehended along Ikorodu road, Lagos, his mother instructed him to use his sibling for the sacrifice after a herbalist she took him asked him to sacrifice a sibling.
Furthermore, in a related development, EONS Intelligence had last week released a viral video which emerged on social media of a young man desirous to drive a new car, had dug a hole inside his room to bury his girlfriend allegedly for ritual purposes.
The increase in the spate of ritual killings either under the guise of yahoo plus, money-making or organ trafficking has raised questions on what the government is doing to prevent this timeline bomb from exploding?
The inherent risk here is that the lack of prosecution of the perpetrators of these dastard, gruesome murders continue to leave several people vulnerable and at risk.
Such risk even becomes rife where parents are also culprits, sending shudders to the spines, by the way, they butcher their children in the latest developments.
This is an indication of a society that has become bereft of values.

In a similar development, the Enugu State Police Command had last week arrested one Ifeanyi Amadikwa, who not only murdered his three children but also dumped their bodies in the most despicable manner.
The action begs the question of what could warrant a parent to kill the child(ren) in such an inhumane manner?
Or what amount could suffice to pay for human life?

In confirming the heightened increase of trafficking, the Makurdi Zonal Command of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Person, NAPTIP, last week arrested an alleged female trafficker and six of her supposed victims at a popular Makurdi motor park.
According to the statement, “the Command in the early hours of Friday, January 7, 2022, received a call from a concerned citizen from Duku Motor Part at Wurukum Makurdi, who alerted the command of a suspected case of human trafficking involving seven ladies of which one is the suspected trafficker.
“Officers of the command arrived at Duku Motor Park some few minutes after receiving the call and met the six ladies and the suspected who said they were all travelling to Lagos.
“The victims were between the ages 16 — 24 years by facial analysis. At the time of the arrival, the Nigerian police were also on the ground because they were also called on the matter.
“About N500,000 was found on the suspect alongside some foreign currencies indicating that the victims were to be moved to a destination outside the country yet to be determined.
“The ladies were all moved to the office of the Nigeria Police in the company of the officers’ of NAPTIP and the police are carrying out preliminary investigation for onward transfer to NAPTIP for future investigation and possible prosecution.”
According to the Director-General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, the advent of disruptive technology associated with the pandemic has led to increased activities of human traffickers who now deploy technological means to woe their victims.
The DG, NAPTIP, Dr Fatima Waziri–Azi, made this known at the 2022 counter-trafficking strategic approach of the agency aimed at ensuring the protection of Nigerians from human trafficking and other forms of exploitation, online and offline.
“It is a known fact that human trafficking has continued to evolve in line with globalization, especially with technology, traffickers have kept pace with technology by using the World Wide Web for their operations.
“This modus of Operandi is prominent with the advent of the COVID-19 Pandemic. There is a shift from physical recruitment to virtual recruitment through virtual assessment of victims and proxy negotiation.
“This database shall enable NAPTIP to have access to vital information of perpetrators who use social media platforms to electronically distribute pornographic materials to either blackmail or exploit children. The system will also help trace missing children, rescue child victims and rescue children from the abusive situation”, Dr Fatima Waziri–Azi stated.
“The NAPTIP Director-General called on all stakeholders to cooperate with the Agency through the sharing of information on missing children and other suspected activities of traffickers within their environment and be assured that such information shall be treated with strict confidentiality and prompt attention,” it added.
There is also an urgent need for the Nigerian Justice system in collaboration with all relevant bodies to assure the citizens that the Nigerian legal system remains the “last hope of the common man as against the lost hope which it is perceived” by going the extra mile to prosecute the criminals behind these activities.
