THE REMARKABLE STORY OF NIGERIAN BORN AMERICAN SOLDIER AWARDED USO SOLDIER OF THE YEAR
A Nigerian born American soldier, Sergeant Mary Ehiarinmwain has been awarded the USO's soldier of the year.
Sergeant Mary immigrated to Germany as a child before moving to the US in 2016 and joining the Army a year later.
Sometime in June 2020, Ehiarinmwain witnessed a car accident in which a car flipped over and landed on its roof.
Sergeant Ehiarinmwain pulled over and rescued the stranger from the car that had started bringing out smoking ready to catch fire and was able to keep him safe until the EMT arrived.
She later discovered that the stranger she rescued in the car accident was a soldier from her unit, the 523rd Engineer Support Company at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.
Sergeant Ehiarinmwain believed her actions was expected of any soldier but her superiors believed she deserved recognition.
Months afterwards, Sergeant Ehiarinmwain has been awarded the USO's soldier of the year.
