Troops Dislodge Terrorists, Recover 91 Rustled Cattle in Renewed Operations Across Southern Taraba
Troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have intensified offensive operations in Southern Taraba, clearing multiple terrorist hideouts and recovering 91 rustled cattle between 24 and 25 November 2025.
The renewed push, part of Operation Zafin Wuta, covered Akesha, Zambana Forest, and Ayu Village in Takum and Donga LGAs—areas frequently targeted by armed herders and criminal groups responsible for attacks, farmland destruction, and displacement of residents.
Acting on actionable intelligence, troops advanced on several hideouts, forcing the criminals to flee as soldiers closed in. During the sweep of Akesha on 24 November, troops recovered 91 cattle abandoned by fleeing suspects while they grazed on cultivated farmlands.
On 25 November, troops made contact with terrorists in Zambana Forest and Ayu Village. The criminals were overpowered by superior firepower and pushed deeper into the forest, further degrading their operational capability.
The operations also allowed displaced farmers to safely access their farms and evacuate harvested crops—an activity previously hindered by repeated threats and attacks.
Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops and vowed to sustain the tempo of operations, especially as the festive season approaches. He emphasised that the Brigade will maintain dominance of the area to prevent further criminal activities.
He directed all individuals claiming ownership of the recovered cattle to report to 93 Battalion, Takum, for proper identification. He made it clear that no cattle will be released unless verified owners compensate farmers whose farmlands were damaged.
General Uwa condemned the ongoing violence linked to marauding herders, warning those migrating into Taraba to register with traditional rulers and local authorities before settling in any community to avoid conflict.
He reaffirmed that Operation Zafin Wuta will continue focusing on dismantling criminal networks, securing farming communities, restoring peace, and safeguarding food security in Southern Taraba.
The Nigerian Army urged residents to provide timely and credible information to support ongoing operations and reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property.
