Troops Dismantle Arms Syndicate in Taraba, Arrest Two, Recover AK-47

Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Wukari, have successfully dismantled a gunrunning syndicate operating in the southern part of Taraba State. The operation, carried out as part of efforts to combat illegal arms proliferation, led to the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of a cache of arms and ammunition.

Acting on credible intelligence, the troops launched a tactical operation at a settlement in Byepi Village along Tsukundi Road, Wukari Local Government Area. During the operation, two individuals—55-year-old Buba Idi and 29-year-old Isiyaka Yusufa—were apprehended.

Subsequent interrogation and follow-up actions led to the recovery of the following items:


One AK-47 rifle


One AK-47 magazine


Sixteen rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition


One Tecno mobile phone


One Bajaj motorcycle

The suspects are currently in custody and undergoing preliminary investigation.


Commending the troops for their professionalism and swift response, the Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, emphasized that the operation is part of a broader strategy to eradicate criminal elements and illegal arms trade across Taraba State. He reiterated the Brigade’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that no safe haven exists for criminal networks within its area of responsibility.


General Uwa also extended appreciation to residents of Taraba State for their continued support and urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to security agencies, assuring them of prompt and proactive responses.
